The NFL Journey
Drafted by the New England Patriots in the eighth round of the 1978 NFL Draft, Tatupu’s career spanned 14 seasons. As a fullback and special teams ace, he left an indelible mark. His powerful rushes—612 carries for 2,415 yards and 18 touchdowns—echoed through stadiums. In 1983, he led the league with an impressive 5.5 rushing yards per attempt. On February 23, 2010, the football world mourned. Mosi Tatupu, at the age of 54, succumbed to a heart attack in Plainville, Massachusetts. His legacy extended beyond the field. In 2014, posthumously diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), Tatupu became a symbol of the toll football can exact on its warriors.
