Stan Haze was born on October 23, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. His birth name was Stanley A. Hazlip. He attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he studied drama and journalism. He also served in the US Army for two years.
Acting and Directing Career
Stan Haze moved to Los Angeles in the late 1950s to pursue a career in acting. He made his film debut in Gidget (1959), where he appeared uncredited. He then changed his stage name to Shary Layne and appeared in two TV shows in 1958. From 1962 to 1967, he was credited as Shary Marshall. He made relatively few feature films, among them: Panic in Year Zero! (1962) with Frankie Avalon and Mary Mitchel, and Your Cheatin’ Heart (1964) with George Hamilton and Susan Oliver. He also guest-starred in popular TV shows such as Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, The Munsters, and The Fugitive.
In the 1980s, he changed his stage name again to Stan Haze and appeared in more films and TV shows. He played Meyer in Alligator (1980), Adkins in Don’t Answer the Phone! (1980), and Hatchett in House Party (1990). He also had roles in TV shows such as Hill Street Blues, Riptide, The Jeffersons, and Hardcastle and McCormick. He also directed one film, Tina and the Professor (1994), which he also wrote and starred in.
Personal Life and Death
Stan Haze was married three times and had two children. His first wife was actress Mary Mitchel, whom he married in 1962 and divorced in 1966. His second wife was actress Sandra Giles, whom he married in 1967 and divorced in 1972. His third wife was actress and model Sharise Ruddell, whom he married in 1974 and divorced in 1981. He had a son, Scott, with Mitchel, and a daughter, Lisa, with Ruddell.
Stan Haze died of lung cancer on May 8, 1999, at his home in Toluca Lake, California, USA. He was 60 years old. He was buried in an unknown location. He is remembered as a talented and versatile actor and director who worked in various genres and media.
