Skylar Neil was the daughter of Motley Crue singer Vince Neil and his ex-wife Sharise Ruddell. She was born on March 26, 1991, and died on August 15, 1995, at the age of four. She had a rare form of kidney cancer called Wilms’ tumor, which spread rapidly throughout her body and caused her immense pain. Her father was devastated by her loss and dedicated his life to raising awareness and funds for cancer research.
A Happy Child with a Tragic Fate
Skylar Neil was a happy and playful child who loved animals and music. She was the only child of Vince Neil and Sharise Ruddell, who married in 1987 and divorced in 1993. Skylar lived with her mother in Chatsworth, California, and saw her father occasionally. She was close to her half-siblings, Neil Jason Wharton and Elizabeth Ashley Wharton, from her father’s previous relationships.
Skylar’s life took a tragic turn in April 1995, when she was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor, a rare type of kidney cancer that affects children. According to her father, she was fine one weekend and then suddenly fell ill the next week. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered a six-pound tumor in her abdomen that had attached itself to almost every organ. She underwent several surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, but none of them could stop the cancer from spreading. She suffered from severe pain, infections, and complications, and eventually slipped into a coma. She died in her father’s arms on August 15, 1995.
A Father’s Grief and Dedication
Vince Neil was shattered by his daughter’s death and blamed himself for not being there for her more. He also blamed the environment and the chemicals that he believed caused her cancer. He said that he felt like he had lost his soul and his reason to live. He turned to alcohol and drugs to cope with his pain, but they only made him more depressed and suicidal. He said that he tried to kill himself several times, but was saved by his friends and family.
He eventually found a new purpose in life by honoring his daughter’s memory and helping other children with cancer. He founded the Skylar Neil Memorial Foundation in 1995, which has raised millions of dollars for cancer research and treatment. He also hosts an annual golf tournament and a poker tournament to raise funds for the foundation. He said that he hopes to find a cure for cancer and to prevent other parents from going through the same agony that he did.
He also wrote a song for his daughter, called “Skylar’s Song”, which was released on his solo album, Carved in Stone, in 1995. The song is a tribute to his daughter’s spirit and his love for her. He said that he still misses her every day and that she is always in his heart.
