The Illness
According to CNN, Ras Kimono fell ill on June 9, 2018, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, while waiting to board a flight to the United States. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Ikeja, Lagos, and later transferred to Lagoon Hospital on the Island, where he died the following morning.

The Funeral
Ras Kimono was buried on August 25, 2018, in his hometown of Onicha-Olona, Delta State, Nigeria, after a series of tributes and concerts in his honor. His funeral was attended by thousands of fans, friends, family members, and fellow musicians, who celebrated his life and legacy. His coffin was draped with the colors of the Rastafari movement, which he identified with.
His widow, Efe Okedi, who was also his manager and a member of his band, died on September 23, 2018, just three weeks after his burial. She reportedly suffered from a chest infection and complications from diabetes. She was buried on October 5, 2018, next to her husband.
