Michael Tyrrell was a Christian guitarist who played with bands such as Mylon and Broken Heart, Doro Pesch, and Rick Pino. He was also the creator of Wholetones, a music therapy project that aimed to heal people with sound frequencies. He passed away on November 1, 2022, at the age of 62, from a cardiac event, according to his wife Lillian.
Early Life and Career
Michael Tyrrell was born and raised in Clearwater, Florida, and started playing guitar at the age of 10. He studied classical guitar with Joseph Lazarro, a protégée of Andre Segovia. He became a Christian during the Jesus People movement of the early 70s, and joined Young American Showcase, a touring band, in his senior year of high school.
However, he soon fell into drug addiction and depression, and attempted to commit suicide. He was miraculously saved by God, who set him free from his addiction and restored his passion for music. He returned to the music industry with a new focus and purpose, and joined Mylon and Broken Heart, a Christian rock band, in 1984. He recorded the album Look Up with them in 1986, and toured with them until 1987.
He then met and married Lillian, and formed a band called DuBeel, which played and ministered in bars and clubs across the East coast and Canada. He recorded two albums with them, Yeah! in 1989 and Box-O-Rock in 1990. He also moved to Nashville, where he worked in ministry with Don Finto at Belmont Church, and opened the Common Ground Coffee House. He also toured with Doro Pesch, a German metal singer, in Europe in 1991.
Later Years and Wholetones
In the last 26 years of his life, Michael Tyrrell was in full-time ministry, and played with many well-known Christian and secular bands. He also traveled and ministered with Jason Upton, and recorded and toured with Rick Pino and Fire Rain ministries. He was known for his virtuoso guitar skills, his passion for Christ, and his love for people.
He also created Wholetones, a music therapy project that used sound frequencies to heal people physically, emotionally, and spiritually. He claimed that he received the inspiration for Wholetones from God, who showed him the ancient frequencies that were used in biblical times. He composed and recorded seven songs, each with a different frequency, and released them as CDs, DVDs, and books. He also developed Wholetones for Pets, Wholetones 2Sleep, and Wholetones Christmas. He said that his goal was to bring healing and hope to the world through music.
