, Kerry Chater was a Canadian musician and songwriter who was best known as a member of Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, a 1960s pop-rock band that had several hit singles. He also wrote songs for country artists such as George Strait, Reba McEntire, and Lee Greenwood.
Chater died on February 4, 2022, in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 76. No official cause of death was given, but according to Social Telecast, he was suffering from lethal health complications for a long time and had multiple organ failures.
Some of his charting songs include “I Know a Heartache When I See One”, “You Look So Good in Love”, and “I.O.U.”. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 1984 for “I.O.U.”. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Gillespie Chater, who is also a songwriter and co-author of their novel series “Kill Point”; his sons Kerry Chater Jr. and Christopher John Chater; his daughter Jesse Kirchhoff; and his granddaughters.
