Jacklyn Zeman, the legendary actress who played nurse Bobbie Spencer on the popular soap opera General Hospital for over four decades, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the age of 70. Her family confirmed that her cause of death was cancer, which she had been fighting for a short time. Zeman’s death shocked and saddened her fans, colleagues, and friends, who remembered her as a talented, kind, and radiant person.
A Beloved Member of the General Hospital Family
Zeman joined General Hospital in 1977, and quickly became one of the most recognizable and beloved faces on the show. She portrayed Bobbie Spencer, the feisty and compassionate younger sister of Luke Spencer, played by Anthony Geary. Bobbie was a schemer who brought Luke to town to keep him away from her rival Laura, but later evolved into a respected nurse and a loyal friend to many. She also had a tumultuous love life, marrying and divorcing several times, and giving birth to two daughters, Carly and Barbara Jean. She suffered a tragic loss when Barbara Jean died in a bus crash and donated her heart to Maxie Jones.
Zeman was nominated for four Daytime Emmy Awards for her role as Bobbie, and received a special tribute at the 2023 Nurses Ball, where she was honored for her 45 years of service to the Port Charles community. She appeared in over 800 episodes of General Hospital, until her last appearance in May 2023.
Zeman was also known for her roles in other soap operas, such as One Life to Live, The Edge of Night, and The Bay. She also appeared in several movies and TV shows, such as National Lampoon’s Class Reunion, Jury Duty: The Comedy, and The Love Boat.
