Stacey Dash and Damon Dash are two famous names in the entertainment industry. Stacey is an actress who starred in the 1995 hit movie Clueless and later became a controversial political commentator. Damon is a music mogul who co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records and launched the careers of artists like Jay-Z and Kanye West. But are they related to each other? The answer is yes, they are first cousins.
How Stacey and Damon Worked Together
Stacey and Damon share a close familial relation, but they also worked together in their respective fields of entertainment. Damon hired Stacey as an actress in some of his film projects, such as Paper Soldiers and State Property. He also connected Stacey to some of his artists when he was the head of Roc-A-Fella Records, and she appeared as the leading lady in many of their music videos. Stacey most notably starred as Kanye West’s love interest in his video for “All Falls Down” when he worked under Damon.
Stacey and Damon also had a friendship with Damon’s late girlfriend, singer Aaliyah, who died in a tragic plane crash in 2001. Stacey was a source of support for Damon after Aaliyah’s death.
Why Stacey and Damon Fell Out
It’s not clear when the relationship between Stacey and Damon went sour, but it seems that Stacey’s political views and business deals played a role. Stacey became a vocal conservative and a contributor for Fox News, where she made controversial statements about race, culture, and politics. Some of her comments included saying that Black History Month and the BET Awards promote segregation, that transgender people should use bushes instead of bathrooms, and that Barack Obama did not give enough to the black community.
Damon was not impressed by Stacey’s opinions, and he publicly criticized her for being misinformed and manipulated by Fox News. He said in an interview with Boyce Watkins in 2016:
> I think FOX pays her to say that s—t. I know how Fox is. You know how manipulative they are. I think they wanted her to do something that would invoke conversation and she did it. I’m quite sure it wasn’t done for free.
Damon also accused Stacey of betraying him in a business deal involving a movie called Honor Up, which he produced and directed. He claimed that Stacey tried to distance herself from the project after it was completed, and that she sued him for using her image without her consent. He said in an Instagram post in 2018:
> So this is really happening… @staceydash really trying to play me like I’m some sucka… like she didn’t beg me to put her in my movie… like she didn’t beg me to make her relevant again… like she didn’t beg me to pay her bills… like she didn’t beg me to get her out of debt… like she didn’t beg me to make her feel good about herself again… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her self esteem issues… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her drug problem… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her alcohol problem… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her mental health issues… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her career… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her family… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her legal issues… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her image… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her reputation… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her branding… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her marketing… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her distribution… like she didn’t beg me to help her with her exposure… like she didn’t beg me to help her with.
