Early Life and Career
Lani O’Grady was born as Lanita Rose Agrati on October 2, 1954, in Walnut Grove, California. She was the sister of actor and musician Don Grady, who starred in the sitcom My Three Sons. She had a passion for acting since childhood and persuaded her mother, Mary B. Grady, a children’s talent agent, to let her audition for roles. She made her acting debut at the age of 13 in the TV series The High Chaparral. She also appeared in other shows such as Harry O, The Delphi Bureau, and Headmaster.
In 1975, she landed a role in the TV movie Cage Without a Key, alongside Susan Dey. The following year, she co-starred in the horror film Massacre at Central High. However, her breakthrough role came in 1977 when she was cast as Mary Bradford in the ABC comedy-drama Eight Is Enough. The show revolved around a writer father and his eight children and was a huge success. O’Grady changed her name to Lani O’Grady at this point and became a household name. She appeared in 112 episodes of the show and also reprised her role in two reunion TV movies in 1987 and 1989.
Personal Life and Death
Despite her fame and popularity, O’Grady had a troubled personal life. She suffered from panic attacks since she was 18 but was not diagnosed with panic disorder until she was 21.
