Complications from Gluteal Augmentation Procedure
According to People, Jacky Oh (whose real name was Jacklyn Smith) died from complications from cosmetic surgery, as was first reported by TMZ. The autopsy report stated that she underwent a gluteal augmentation procedure on May 30, during which there were no complications. She was prescribed medications including the antibiotic Ciprofloxacin, the painkiller Oxycodone and the nausea remedy Odansetron.
However, one day after the surgery, she developed a “burning” headache and began to have “difficulty speaking”. Her aunt called emergency services and by the time they arrived, Jacky Oh was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The manner of death was ruled an accident by the medical examiner’s office.
A Loving Friend, Beloved Colleague and Tremendous Mother
Jacky Oh was a cast member of Wild ‘N Out for five seasons, beginning with season 6 in 2014. She also appeared in other shows such as Marc + Jenni, Shift Drinks and The Worst Couple. After leaving Wild ‘N Out, she launched her own lip gloss line and sold real estate.
She was also in a long-term relationship with rapper and comedian DC Young Fly (whose real name is John Whitfield), whom she met in 2015. They shared three children: Nova, Nala and Prince.
The Wild ‘N Out family mourned the loss of Jacky Oh in a statement shared on social media: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jacklyn Smith, known to the world as Jacky Oh, a talented Wild N’ Out family member whose impact will be forever treasured and missed. The Risks of Cosmetic Surgery
Jacky Oh’s tragic death highlights the potential dangers of cosmetic surgery, especially when it involves injecting substances into the body. Gluteal augmentation, also known as Brazilian butt lift or BBL, is a procedure that aims to enhance the shape and size of the buttocks by transferring fat from other areas of the body or injecting synthetic fillers.
According to NBC Miami, BBL is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries in the world, but also one of the most risky. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that BBL has a mortality rate of 1 in 3,000, which is higher than any other cosmetic procedure. The main cause of death is fat embolism, which occurs when fat enters the bloodstream and blocks a blood vessel.
To reduce the risks of BBL, experts recommend choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience and training in performing the procedure safely. They also advise following the post-operative instructions carefully and avoiding any activities that could cause infection or bleeding.
Jacky Oh’s death is a reminder that cosmetic surgery is not without risks and that anyone considering it should weigh the benefits and drawbacks carefully before making a decision.
