Joseph Kapacziewski, also known as “Kap”, was a retired U.S. Army Ranger who served with distinction in the 75th Ranger Regiment. He was the first Ranger to return to combat with a prosthetic leg after losing his right leg in an ambush in Iraq in 2005. He deployed 11 times in support of the Global War on Terrorism and received numerous awards and decorations, including three Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star with “V” device for valor.
Joseph Kapacziewski passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the age of 40 in Dripping Springs, Texas. According to his obituary, he is survived by his wife, Kimberly; his sons, Wyatt and Cody; his brother, Randy; his sister, Erin; his mother, Lori; and his grandparents. He was preceded in death by his father, William.
The official cause of death for Joseph Kapacziewski has been cited as complications due to sepsis by the Pierce County Medical Examiners Office in Washington State. Sepsis is a severe infection that can occur when bacteria enter the bloodstream and spread throughout the body, leading to inflammation and organ failure if not treated quickly enough.
Joseph Kapacziewski’s Legacy: A Warrior and a Mentor
Joseph Kapacziewski’s death has shocked and saddened many people who knew him or admired him for his courage and resilience. He was a loving husband, father, and accomplished hunter. He loved to work out and enjoyed time with his beloved dog, Brett. He was also a friend and mentor to many of his fellow Rangers and veterans, who looked up to him for his leadership and wisdom.
After retiring from the Army, Joseph Kapacziewski continued to serve his country and lead his brothers in arms up until the time of his passing. He worked as a contractor and instructor for various military and law enforcement agencies, sharing his skills and experience with the next generation of warriors.
Joseph Kapacziewski will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery and a private service will be held at that time. In lieu of flowers, a fund has been set up to support the Kapacziewski family during this difficult time through the Valor Mission Project.
