Guillaume Bideau, the former vocalist of the Danish metal band Mnemic, passed away at the age of 44. His death was announced by his former bandmates and fans on social media, but the details and the cause of his death remain unknown.
A Versatile and Talented Musician
Bideau was born in France and started his musical career as the frontman of the French metal band Scarve, which he joined in 1998. He recorded four albums with Scarve, collaborating with current Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren, who paid tribute to him on Facebook.
“Guillaume, it’s with a devastated heart that I write these words. I remember our first meeting in 1999 like it was yesterday. You came to see me at my little apartment in Nancy reaching out with a fake hand, which fell to the ground when I shook it, leaving me perplexed… You were without a doubt expecting a burst of laughter,” Verbeuren wrote, according to Loudwire.
He added that Bideau was “a brilliant, non-conformist, stubborn and tenacious artist” and “a true friend”.
In 2006, Bideau left Scarve and joined Mnemic, a Danish metal band that had been active since 1998. He replaced vocalist Michael Bøgballe, who had left the band due to personal reasons. Bideau recorded three albums with Mnemic: Passenger (2007), Sons of the System (2010), and Mnemesis (2012). He also performed with the band One-Way Mirror, which he formed with members of Scarve and other French musicians.
Bideau was known for his versatile and powerful voice, which could range from clean singing to harsh growls. He also had a passion for photography and worked as a producer, engineer, and mixer for other artists.
A Sudden and Shocking Death
Bideau’s death came as a shock to his fans and colleagues, who expressed their condolences and memories on social media. His former Mnemic bandmate Mircea Gabriel Eftemie wrote on Facebook:
“Words can not describe how I feel. I am devastated and extremely saddened by the passing of my friend and old band member, Guillaume Bideau. Everything we’ve experienced and laughed at together throughout the years, the crazy shenanigans, the parties, the fights, the travels, the struggle for success – are all the memories I will cherish forever. You where a unique character, a visionary and true artist with a big heart. You made us all laugh and you touched our lives with your music. I can not believe you are now gone… My thoughts go to his family, and the many friends all around the world. I will forever miss you. Rest in peace Guillaume.”
The cause of Bideau’s death has not been revealed by his family or his representatives. According to Music Times, he did not have any known health issues in the past years, except for a throat infection that forced Mnemic to cancel a festival appearance in 2007. Some fans speculated that he might have died from COVID-19, but there is no confirmation or evidence to support this claim.
Bideau’s death is a tragic loss for the metal community and for his loved ones. He will be remembered for his music, his humor, and his spirit. Rest in peace, Guillaume Bideau.
