Lance Reddick, the actor best known for his roles in The Wire and the John Wick franchise, died suddenly on March 17, 2023, at his home in Studio City, California. He was 60 years old.

His publicist, Mia Hansen, confirmed his death in a statement, saying that he “passed away suddenly this morning from natural causes.” She did not provide any further details about the cause of his death.

Reddick was in the middle of a press tour for the fourth installment of the John Wick series, which is scheduled to be released on March 24, 2023. He also had a role in the spin-off film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas.

Reddick was widely praised for his performance as Cedric Daniels, a Baltimore police officer and later commissioner, in the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire. He also appeared in other TV shows such as Oz, Law & Order: SVU, and Fringe.

Speculation about COVID-19 vaccine involvement

However, an attorney representing the family, James Hornstein, said that the cause of death was not proved by an autopsy and was inconsistent with Reddick’s habits and fitness. Hornstein claimed that Reddick was “the most physically fit person I’ve ever known.” He said that the actor worked out daily at his home gym, doing extensive cardio and maintaining a strict diet. He also said that Reddick required “the availability of gym facilities” as a “contractual requirement” when working away from home.

“The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle,” Hornstein said. “On behalf of [Lance’s wife] Stephanie Reddick, the death certificate information is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”

Whether any further action will be taken beyond the statement is unclear.

Fans and colleagues mourn the loss of a talented actor

Lance Reddick’s death has left a void in the entertainment industry and among his fans. Many of his colleagues and co-stars have expressed their grief and condolences on social media, remembering him as a talented, versatile, and generous actor.

Keanu Reeves, who played the titular character in the John Wick films, said that he was “devastated” by the news of Reddick’s passing. He called him a “wonderful friend and a brilliant actor.”
