Lance Reddick Cause of Death: Vaccine or Natural Causes?

The Wire and John Wick star passed away at 60

Lance Reddick, the actor best known for his roles in The Wire and the John Wick franchise, died suddenly on March 17, 2023, at his home in Studio City, California. He was 60 years old.

His publicist, Mia Hansen, confirmed his death in a statement, saying that he “passed away suddenly this morning from natural causes.” She did not provide any further details about the cause of his death.

Reddick was in the middle of a press tour for the fourth installment of the John Wick series, which is scheduled to be released on March 24, 2023. He also had a role in the spin-off film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas.

Reddick was widely praised for his performance as Cedric Daniels, a Baltimore police officer and later commissioner, in the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire. He also appeared in other TV shows such as Oz, Law & Order: SVU, and Fringe.

Speculation about COVID-19 vaccine involvement

Reddick’s sudden death sparked speculation online about whether he had received the COVID-19 vaccine and if it had any role in his demise. Some anti-vaxxers claimed that the recent deaths of otherwise healthy individuals were linked to the jab, and questioned how Reddick could die of natural causes when he was a “perfectly healthy 60-year-old.”

However, there is no evidence that Reddick’s death was the result of vaccine injury. No mention of him being vaccinated or his passing being related to the jab has been made by sources close to the late star.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective, and have undergone rigorous testing and monitoring. The CDC also states that the benefits of getting vaccinated outweigh the risks of getting infected with the coronavirus, which can cause severe illness and death.

Family disputes coroner’s conclusion

The family of Lance Reddick is disputing the coroner’s conclusion on his cause of death. Earlier reports linked Reddick’s death to heart disease, specifically ischemic heart disease and atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, which are typically caused by plaque build up in the arteries.

However, an attorney representing the family, James Hornstein, said that the cause of death was not proved by an autopsy and was inconsistent with Reddick’s habits and fitness. Hornstein claimed that Reddick was “the most physically fit person I’ve ever known.” He said that the actor worked out daily at his home gym, doing extensive cardio and maintaining a strict diet. He also said that Reddick required “the availability of gym facilities” as a “contractual requirement” when working away from home.

“The information appearing on the death certificate is wholly inconsistent with his lifestyle,” Hornstein said. “On behalf of [Lance’s wife] Stephanie Reddick, the death certificate information is not corroborated and is inconsistent with the facts known to the family.”

Whether any further action will be taken beyond the statement is unclear.

Fans and colleagues mourn the loss of a talented actor

Lance Reddick’s death has left a void in the entertainment industry and among his fans. Many of his colleagues and co-stars have expressed their grief and condolences on social media, remembering him as a talented, versatile, and generous actor.

Keanu Reeves, who played the titular character in the John Wick films, said that he was “devastated” by the news of Reddick’s passing. He called him a “wonderful friend and a brilliant actor.”

David Simon, the creator of The Wire, also paid tribute to Reddick, calling him a “masterful actor” and a “delightful human being.” He said that Reddick’s portrayal of Cedric Daniels was “one of the great performances in television history.”

Reddick is survived by his wife Stephanie and his four children. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and fans.
