Heart Attack: The Likely Cause of Death
According to TMZ, police investigating his death revealed that he received CPR at a home in Toms River, New Jersey before passing away. Police were informed of “CPR in progress” at 11.45 am before being dispatched to the scene. An autopsy report detailing the cause of death is pending. However, many sources have speculated that he died of a heart attack, based on his family history and his weight.
According to Dr. Mirkin, a sports medicine expert, Siragusa had a genetic condition that made him prone to obesity and heart attacks. He wrote that Siragusa’s father died of a heart attack at 42, and his brother died of a heart attack at 38. Siragusa himself weighed more than 300 pounds during his playing career, and struggled to lose weight after retirement. He underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2017, but it did not prevent him from having a heart attack in his sleep.
Another source, Research Blaze, also confirmed that Siragusa had a heart attack and died suddenly. The source cited Jim Ornstein, the former NFL player’s broadcast agent, who confirmed the news of his death.
